I've taken cues from The Strand 80, Time Magazine All-Time 100, Random house 100 Best, The New York Times Bestseller List, as well as some I've just wanted to read- and from these I've compiled my own list of 100 books to read (in no particular order) of both literary and popular fiction (and non-fiction). This blog is a way to organize my process, thoughts, & keep track of what I've taken from each one.
As you can see, I now have a blog. I primarily have it for a graduate class on social media I'm taking this summer, but we were encouraged to find other blogs to follow and respond to. I instantly thought of yours. :)
"Sex on the Moon" looks interesting-- I'm wondering what you think of the author though. I recently read his book "Bringing Down the House" (on which the movie "21" is based), and am partway through "The Accidental Billionaires." I'm having a hard time with it-- his "it might have gone something like this" style of storytelling feels a little sketchy to me. After seeing "The Social Network," I did some reading on him, and as it turns out, he's not very well-regarded in certain literary circles. What do you think of his writing style? Of his other books?
Well, I'm personally a fan of Ben Mezrich. I know that he's very critisized particularly by those who are sticklers for fact. I really enjoy the dramatized version of reality- but look at it more as "true-life fiction" than I do business profiles. I'm going to an event with him in July and am looking forward to his responses on those questions! ;-) (I personally liked Bringing Down the House more than The Accidental Billionaires- though I still have yet to read Rigged about the Harvard Grad who goes to the middle east to work for an oil company- I DID buy it at work though!)
Hi Nicole!
